The itinerary below may change a little if there are circumstances out of our control like weather, road closures, or others.
Day 1 - Friday
Guests are kindly requested to arrive at the Kamberg Guest House no later than 12:00 pm. Approximately two weeks before the start of the workshop, we will provide all the necessary details, including directions and a PIN for Google Maps, to ensure a smooth arrival.
After settling into the accommodation we will gather for a light snack and refreshment followed by a short introduction and presentation to what can be expected over the workshop period. Following this we will head out for a sunset photo session to capture the incredible scenery in the afternoon light. We’ll return to a relaxing delicious meal and as an additional optional highlight, we will head out to capture the night skies weather permitting.
Weather conditions play a huge role in the actual activities schedules, we wait until we know what the weather is going to do and then decide on the next day's exact itinerary.
Day 2 - Saturday
We'll start early to reach our photographic location before sunrise, as discussed the night before. Coffee and rusks will be available for the early risers.
We’ll return in time for a hearty brunch followed by a classroom session to review the morning’s activities. We'll download and process our images, learning post-processing workflows and retouching techniques.
Enjoy some free time and rest before our sunset photography session. Afterward, return to the guest house for a hearty meal and refreshments. Once again, weather permitting, there's an option for night photography after dinner.
I attended the Landscape and Portrait work hosted by Rory Baker in November 2019 and was based at Mnweni. Rory and Carl were fantastic instructors. The venue worked well and their relationship with the folk in a nearby village provided a great opportunity for the portrait session. I learned a great deal from Rory over the weekend and the workshop certainly took my photography to another level. Mark Zunkel
Day 3 - Sunday
Prepare for an early start to reach our photographic location before sunrise, as discussed the night before. Those who wake up early can enjoy coffee and rusks before departure. Upon returning, brunch will be served. Following brunch, we will have a final classroom session to discuss the morning's activities, download images, and address any photography-related queries.
The workshop will conclude around 12:00 pm, allowing time for farewells before heading back home.
Molweni Kamberg Valley B&B

The Kamberg Valley is described by its people as ‘the valley, which God created once he had practiced on the rest of the world”. Kamberg Valley lies between the Midlands town of Nottingham Road and the Drakensberg Mountain Range in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It is a vast open space characterized by verdant rolling hills, rivers, and dams and exudes an atmosphere of calm and tranquility.
Because of its central location between the Midlands and the Drakensberg, Kamberg is the ideal place to use as a base for photography. One of the most picturesque valleys can be found at the Highmoor Nature Reserve which is bordered by Kamberg and Lotheni to the South and Giants Castle to the North.
